My Absence, Explained

It's been really busy around here lately.
I have been party planning, cooking, crafting and dealing with the challenges thrown at me every step of the way.

Update on my sewing machine: I got it back from the shop again, and still it was not repaired properly. I took it back and FINALLY was given my refund.
But still, this leaves me without a sewing machine, and not enough money to buy a brand new one.
I promised myself that the next machine would be more of an investment, not a cheap machine that will last me a year and break down.

Yesterday we started the big task of fixing our broken driveway. Over the years, the roots from neighbouring trees have grown up underneath and cracked the concrete, pushing it up and out and everywhere. My husband & I started in the morning before his father came along to help. We smashed out the sections of concrete we needed to replace and hauled them up to the truck for disposal. It was sweaty, hard work. The worst part, was the disgusting discovery we made.

These disgusting little things..... THOUSANDS of them came spilling up from the ground with every chunk of concrete we pulled up. The concrete had a layer of broken bricks and tiles in the bottom of it, and the roaches had nestled themselves in there to make a home. Only one ventured close to our front door and I showed Eve how we deal with them... A swift flick of my shoe and it was taken care of.
While I slipped inside to put of food shopping delivery away (talk about bad timing!), Eve had grabbed my shoe and run around swatting it at the nasty roaches. That's my girl!

Eve was a good little helper.
She saw us carrying concrete up to the truck and went inside, put her boots on and came out to help.
We were at the truck, throwing our loads in and turned around to see her walking up towards us with a little piece of concrete in her hands. She brushed past us, plopped in on the truck bed and dusted her hands off "There we go!" And off she went for more!

It was a long, exhausting day.
I finally got to cut up and freeze the chocolate cake I had baked for Eli's birthday the day before...

And then in the evening, when the kids were finally asleep, we had our date night. Pizza, red wine and snuggling in front of the tv.

So I have to say, posting on here will be sporadic, I rarely have a moment to myself, and when I do, it's usually dedicated to the art of sleeping. One I wish to perfect!

I Need Some Kitchen Mojo

I'm in a rut.
A cooking rut.
I want to push myself to try new things.
But lately, sheer exhaustion has pushed me into complacency.
I have so much to do, no energy, and no time!
And worst of all.... NO COFFEE!

Thank God our shopping is delivered tomorrow.
I have to admit, I did put boiling water into our empty coffee tin and swish it around, hoping to catch a little of the delicious flavour held within.
(It didn't work)

Going on Pinterest there are just so many delicious things I want to make....
(No more words here, just a grumbling tummy and an aching head)

Positive Printables

In my spare time (when I am not running around after small children, keeping up the house and husband...) I like to play around in Photoshop.
I did a little Google search for positive quotes and went from there...

My Valentine

Yesterday was a long day.
I was cooking all day.
Meringues in the oven while I mixed up cake batter.
Cake baking while I defrosted chicken mince and frozen spinach as well as fish fillets.
Frosting being whipped into fluffy, creaminess while cakes cooled and meringues were being sneakily stolen off the counter...
Dishwasher sloshing and children squealing, crying, laughing and the constant cry of "Mummy, mummy, mummy!"

Three attempts at garlic aioli, until I realized I should have listened to myself, not the recipes I found online.
In the end it was a success.
For dinner I made chicken, spinach and feta rissoles with steamed veges, hot chips and garlic aioli sauce. For me, I had a grilled piece of fish instead of the rissoles.
It was yummy, so, so yummy!
My darling husband was a big fan of the aioli, so it was worth it in the end!

Dessert.
I rushed it a bit....
But it was still good!

We sliced off large chunks...

And drizzled with vanilla cream...

Oh it was goooooood!

My lovely man bought me a box of chocolates and a bunch of some amazingly beautiful tulips.
We snuggled on the couch and watched tv while we sampled the tasty treats.
I like Valentine's Day, only for that fact that it gives us another reason to shower each other with more gestures of our love.

Gone Sewin' (I wish!)

I am upset.
I am angry.
I picked up my sewing machine from it's big repair ($135 worth)
It worked for about ten stitches...
Now it's right back to what it was before.
Not happy.
At all.
I need to take it back today, I'm demanding a refund.
The repair man went ahead and did the repairs without contacting me, all I got was a bill and a (still) broken machine.
*Sigh*
By now I thought I would be sewing up a storm...

A Little Bit of Love

It is pretty much impossible to not know that Valentine's Day is quickly approaching...
My husband & I don't really celebrate it much, maybe a surprise bunch of flowers or little treat if we are feeling like it.
We say "I Love You" every day.
With meaning, and out of habit.
When we laugh together and look into each other's eyes we say "I know why I married you..."

We understand each other, we finish each other's sentences, and we have so many of our own "in" jokes, no one could ever keep up.

In my internet exploration (aka time wasting at the end of the long day) I have come across some cute little things I had to share.

I can't credit all of them, as they have come from near & far, some have been on my computer for long, others just new.

My one tip, if you like vintage clip art, sign up for the Dover free sampler. It has samples of the books they have for sale and you can get some great stuff in them!

Some things a little more crafty too...

This Love Potion looks delicious...

I can't wait to shake up our date nights!
