It is over.
Gone are the days when you could just get down on one knee with a nice ring.
Take her to dinner, nice food, good wine. Some champagne for afterwards (if everything went to plan!).
No, not any more.
Some guys are getting creative.
They have changed the game.
There are the sweet and romantic ones...
The sneaky ones...
The ridiculously over the top crazy ones...
The ones where you wonder, what was he thinking???

My husband's proposal to me was nothing like any of these.
We had already spoken of getting married, I knew he was going to ask me.
I helped him pick out my ring, nothing to flash, something that was really "me".
We went to one of my favourite places...
My heart was pounding, and he got down on one knee.
I grabbed him and pulled him back up.
No, not down there!
I wanted to look up into his eyes as he asked me.
I did.
He asked,
I said yes.
We kissed.
And smiled.
It was perfect.
It was love, our way.
This September, it will be 8 years since we had this moment.
In those 8 years we have had good times, and bad.
But mostly good.
We always smile, laugh, and kiss each other good night.
That is my idea of romance.

ReplyDeleteAww. My proposal was similar to yours. We had spoken of getting married, and I had pointed out a ring I really liked (and hoped he would buy it, lol). Six months later we went for a walk on the beach and sat on one of my favourite spots overlooking the water. Nate pointed something out to my right, and when I looked back he had the ring box open.
